Bruce B. Thomas has worked in the insurance and investment industries since 1984 and
has worked for Conning Research & Consulting, Marsh & McLennan Companies, Travelers,
Shearson Lehman Brothers, and Coopers & Lybrand. He has founded and managed several
insurance service companies, and is recognized internationally as an authority on issues
pertaining to enterprise risk management and the use of index-based insurance alternatives.
His articles on risk management, benchmarking, finance, and investments have appeared in
many insurance industry publications.
L. Ware Preston, III has worked in the insurance brokerage and risk management consulting
business since 1976 with Marsh & McLennan Companies, Minet, Tillinghast, and Johnson &
Higgins. He has helped organizations consider alternative approaches to financing risk,
managing captive insurance companies, and negotiating and servicing insurance programs.
He pioneered the concept of assessing the value of insurance in relation to the cost of
holding risk capital and has worked to bring attention to the phenomenon of systemic risk and
need to manage it. His articles on these and other subjects have appeared in Best’s Review,
Viewpoint, and Financing Risk & Reinsurance.
